No, I'm not dead
nor is this blog. I think.
I'm a pretty rabid google user, so let's see how I like the new Blogger. It's worth a shot, at least.
No particular reason for the photo other than "because I can" and because I want to try out the feature.

The new lotr_pix LJ community
Yes, I'm finally getting around to it. With Zebracon over until the final one in 2007, and only Chicago Tardis left for this year - due to finances and the health of the cat, I'll probably have to commute - I should have some time to get moving on it.
So, in order to keep all of this as clear as possible, I think I'll do separate posts, or at least mostly separate, for each part of the new community. Anyone can comment on these, so go right ahead - comments from potential viewers are just as important as those from potential moderators.
Post the first - a community name, and moderators. Who's still interested in modding? In order to keep this as stress-free as possible, I'm thinking about at least 5 moderators, covering as many LOTR actors/interests as possible. Unfortunately, we've lost Tina, but I'm hoping some of you are still interested!
And - names? I am so hopeless at that sort of thing. If you have something clever in mind, by all means suggest it. (Why does that remind me of a certain conversation I once had on helium, and attempted to recreate over the weekend??) Otherwise, I'm likely to go with something nondescript like lotr_themepix or something.

Another Beautiful Evening
I haven't wanted to drag the a/c unit out of the closet (yes, it's gay) because the weather has been so gorgeous. And with only one window in the bedroom, once the air conditioner is in, it's in for the duration. I can barely lift the damn thing and dragging it from the living room closet to the bedroom window ONCE during the summer is more than enough. (How I did it last year with a broken foot, I'm really glad I don't remember!)
But anyway, crazy person next door has opted for Motown rather than gospel tonight, for which I'm very thankful. He/She/It seems to yell "whoa!" in no apparent relation to whatever is being played, so that part makes no difference, but the music is slightly less offensive to me. Although I just *barely* made it through "The Hustle" without looking for a rock to throw...

Thanks to whoever noted that the woman who attended Elton's party with Serena might be Suzanne Bertish. Since she was at the National at the same time and pretty much moves in the same circles as Ian, I'm guessing that is indeed her.

Moving on out...
I haven't changed my mind about sticking with LJ for the time being, even though I prefer blogger and I've paid for blogger pro. So, I'm quitting my blogger webrings and moving my tagboard to my website.

How did I miss this one?
It's from Viggo's most recent book. Started to bid on it on ebay yesterday, then realized it would be cheaper to just order it from the publisher. Duh!
In other news, as I suspected, it's becoming pointless to keep this blog in addition to the other group blogs I'm a part of *and* my LJ, so I will probably phase this one out as I move my LOTR site to its new subdomain over the next two months.

Picasso movie update from Fox News
Picasso Film Picks Up Steam
Tobey Maguire will not be joining Steve Martin, Kevin Kline and Ryan Phillippe in Fred Schepisi's film of Martin's Picasso at the Lapin Agile.
"We've never been able to cut through the wall in front of him," Schepisi told me at the IFP Gotham Awards last night.
Ditto Reese Witherspoon, who has elected also not to join the troupe opposite her hubby, Phillippe. "They don't like to do projects together," Schepisi reported with a shrug.
Nevertheless this terrific film is due to start production in February. The hunt for an actor to play Albert Einstein is on, but offers are out and a name should pop up in a short time, Schepisi reported. Elijah Wood, meantime, is considering the role.

Charles in Ontario, Canada, is a graphic artists and uses Photoshop, Quark Xpress, and Illustrator. He has a 1.4 GHz Pentium 4 with 128MB of RAM and Windows Me. Should he upgrade his processor to get faster performance?
Digital artists usually handle very large files, which require a lot of RAM. Your PC will benefit from adding more RAM. Without the RAM, your PC is using the hard drive for memory, which is slow. By adding more RAM, you should see a significant increase.
To figure out how much RAM you should add, take an average of the size of the files you create and edit. Multiply that by four, and you'll have the amount of RAM you should add. For example, if you typically handle 100MB files, you should have about 400MB of RAM. The more RAM, the better.
