Digital artists usually handle very large files, which require a lot of RAM. Your PC will benefit from adding more RAM. Without the RAM, your PC is using the hard drive for memory, which is slow. By adding more RAM, you should see a significant increase.

To figure out how much RAM you should add, take an average of the size of the files you create and edit. Multiply that by four, and you'll have the amount of RAM you should add. For example, if you typically handle 100MB files, you should have about 400MB of RAM. The more RAM, the better.
